MMO Lifestyle is proud to present our newest community relations Q&A.  This one is with the new SOE Community Relations Representative Amnerys.  She looks after both the EQ and EQ II communities within her new role at Sony.

MMOL: How long have you been with Sony Online Entertainment now and what position(s) did you hold there prior to becoming the CRR for the EQ and EQ II?

Amnerys: I started working at SOE at the end of 2006, so just over a year and a half now.  I was hired in as a Marketing Assistant, which was a support role for the Marketing VPs and for the department as a whole.  The CRR position is my second job within SOE.

MMOL: Is SOE your first game industry employment?

Amnerys: It is, but not my first entertainment industry employment.  I worked at both The Disney Store and Walt Disney World (EPCOT) in college, at a mini-golf place and a day camp in high school, so I tend to lean toward fun companies. :)

MMOL: What kind of work were you doing prior to SOE (or the gaming industry in general if SOE is not your first game related job)?

Amnerys: I have a degree in journalism, and after college I got into graphic design, then segued into a graphics/public relations/editorial writing position.  They were creative jobs, and I’m glad to be back into a position where I can write, be creative, and be social.

MMOL: Where are you from originally or have you always been located around the San Diego area?

Amnerys: I’m a proud Air Force brat! I was born in Forth Worth, but also lived in Omaha, Memphis, Orlando, and a little town called Mildenhall in England.

MMOL: Music: What is the genre(s) of music that you listen too the most?

Amnerys: I started college as a vocal music major, so my tastes run a little less mainstream than most of my friends.  I’m a huge Broadway fan, and I also really enjoy the “Classical Crossover” genre, Big Band and Swing, and Standards/Crooners.  But I also have a past as a “hair band” fan and I listen to popular 80s and 90s stuff occasionally.  My husband makes me listen to “normal” stuff when he drives, too. ;)

MMOL: Any favorite band that the readers may possibly not have heard of?

Amnerys: Probably not.  I’m more into vocalists, and I’ve unfortunately never been much of a pioneer in finding new groups I like.

MMOL: General Entertainment:  Books, T.V., Movies…What do you like and/or dislike?

Amnerys: I’m a huge Harry Potter geek, and I pretty much read all the time.  Lately it’s been more of the chick-lit stuff, because it’s light and quick to read, and always has a happily ever after.  I also like historical fiction and fantasy.  I do spend a lot of time watching TV and movies, too.  My husband and I are into Lost and Heroes, The Big Bang Theory, My Name is Earl, The Office, and lots of Discovery Channel shows.  As for movies, I tend to like all the Sci-Fi/Fantasy series (Star Wars, LotR, Pirates, Potter, etc.), comic book movies, the occasional chick flicks and epic historical movies.

MMOL: What other activities keep you busy?

Amnerys: Aside from the regular household stuff, my husband and I do occasional game nights with friends (board games) and we have a motorcycle, so we get out some weekends and do sightseeing by bike.  My current project is archiving all of our families’ photos and videos.

MMOL: What kind of pets (if any) do you have?

Amnerys: We have two doggies!  A 13 year-old Chow mix named Chyna, and 6 year-old Chihuahua named Sasha.

MMOL: Other than the EverQuest series, what other MMORPG games are you playing now, or have recently played?

Amnerys: The ones I’ve tried include DAoC and Horizons, but I really just stick with EQII.  It just works for me and I have a lot of time invested in it.  I tend to play more console games these days when I’m not in EQII.  Things like Carcassonne, Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix, Pirates of the Caribbean, Puzzle Quest, Uno, Lego Star Wars.  I do plan to check out Galaxies and Vanguard sometime soon, though.

MMOL:  What was your first foray into gaming?  Was it with the original Pong console, arcades at the local mall, maybe a Atari 2600, NES or something later?

Amnerys: Way back when my dad bought his first computer, I remember playing some ascii-looking robot game…no idea what it was now.  Then we got our Atari and I loved Pitfall, Frogger, and Pac-Man.  A few years later my dad introduced me to PC games, like Mystery House, King’s Quest, and those old text adventures.  That’s really what started it all for me.

MMOL: What is the first game that you can say you were “addicted” to and just had to finish it?

Amnerys: I’m not sure about “addicted,” but the King’s Quest games were the first multi-session games I played, and I did finish the first five of those.  I had to go get those hint books with the markers for some of them (remember those?) but I got through them eventually.  I loved the puzzles and working through the storylines.

MMOL: Have you asked for a raise after reading the recent The Irregular Image: Breakfast! Blog post by Grimwell?

Amnerys: Hah! No, but I might ask for some pancakes from the new griddle. Yummmm.

Questions from the EQ II community

MMOL: Pie or Cake?

Amnerys: BOTH!

MMOL: Pirate or ninja?

Amnerys: Pirate

MMOL: luna lovegood or nymphadora tonks?

Amnerys: Luna

MMOL: Which country have you always wanted to travel to and why?

Amnerys: Australia.  I’ve already been to Greece, so Australia was next on the list.  Beautiful scenery, interesting culture and history, and those great accents!

MMOL: What's your favorite thing about working with the EQII community?

Amnerys: I feel a real camaraderie with the community since I have played the game from day one.  My very favorite thing has to be checking out all the amazing things people have done with their homes and decorating.  We have some really talented players.

MMOL: What do you like about working at SOE?

Amnerys: Well, the best thing is that I don’t feel like a geek around here!  In previous jobs, no one understood when I said I had to get home in time for a raid.  Aside from that, it’s just a fun company.  We work hard, but we have fun, too.  It’s the greatest feeling to wake up in the morning and not dread going in to work.

MMOL: Do you believe you can chat with this group and still retain your sanity or is it already gone?

Amnerys: Hmmm.  That remains to be seen…on both parts.  ;)  Come meet me at Fan Faire and Gen Con and you can decide for yourself!

Thank you Amnerys for taking part in this and again welcome to the EQ/EQ II Communities!

You can find more information on EverQuest II and the rest of SOE's offerings on the Station website.
